  • Afraid of an episiotomy
    Eliska

    Eliska, 35 years

    first-time mum

'My biggest fear about childbirth was the physical side of it. Everything I had heard sounded frightening, and I felt that there wasn't much I could do to prepare anyway.'

    What I worried about

I was terribly afraid of the physical side of childbirth. I felt that there was nothing I could do to influence it – you were either lucky or you weren't.

    How I felt

What surprised me most was how quickly I gained confidence. By the time I went to the maternity ward, I felt calmer than I had ever expected.

  • Wanted to stay in control
    Anezka

    Anezka, 26 years

    first-time mum

'My friends kept telling me that I would forget everything once labour started and simply panic. As a naturally rational person, that idea was a nightmare for me.'

    What I worried about

The thought of not knowing how to react terrified me. I wanted to have a plan - not to control the birth, but so that I wouldn't feel completely lost.

    How I felt

Books weren't enough to calm me down– I needed something practical, something I could actually try for myself. The preparation gave me confidence that I wasn't going into childbirth completely unprepared.

  • Started late
    Linda

    Linda, 31 years

    first-time mum

'I got my Aniball quite late and wasn't sure whether it was still worth starting.'

    What I worried about

I felt embarrassed that I had left it so late. I kept telling myself there was no point in starting now.

    How I felt

In the end, I'm glad I didn't give up and gave it a chance. The peace of mind I gained from the preparation was well worth the time.

How it works

Three steps to preparing your perineum for childbirth.

Aniball is an intuitive aid you can use at home. In this short video, Dr Horackova explains how it works.

  1. 1

    Prepare in peace

Take some time for yourself. Wash the balloon with a pH-neutral soap (AniFresh), apply lubricating gel, and settle into a comfortable position.

  2. 2

    Practise breathing and relaxation

Insert the balloon into the vagina and inflate it gently. Take a few slow breaths in and out. As you inhale, consciously relax your pelvic floor and become familiar with a technique that can support you during childbirth.

  3. 3

    Go at your own pace

Increase the size of the balloon only until you feel gentle tension – never pain. What matters most is understanding the technique, not achieving a large circumference.

Safety: Common Concerns, Answered

Training should not be painful

Inflate the balloon only until you feel gentle tension. Your body should feel comfortable and relaxed.

Aniball does not induce labour

Aniball does not trigger labour. The processes that start labour are different.

Designed to prepare, not overstretch

Using Aniball does not cause widening of the vagina. After birth, it can also be used to support pelvic floor recovery.

Before you order

What mums most often ask before ordering

We've summarised the most common concerns and answered them honestly, so you can decide with peace of mind.

  • No, it's not too late. Many women start using Aniball at 38 or 39 weeks of pregnancy. Even a short period of preparation can help you become familiar with the breathing technique and feel more confident for childbirth. Research published in the British Journal of Midwifery (2023) suggests that quality of practice may matter more than the number of days spent preparing.

  • Yes. When used according to the instructions, Aniball is safe for both you and your baby. No serious adverse events have been reported.

  • No. Aniball does not stretch or weaken the pelvic floor. Instead, it helps you practise the key skills for childbirth: relaxation, breathing, and working with your body.

When used according to the instructions, Aniball is designed for gradual, controlled preparation and does not cause vaginal widening or damage to the pelvic floor.

  • Perineal massage can be helpful, but it focuses only on the perineum. Many women also find it uncomfortable or are unsure whether they are doing it correctly.

Aniball takes a different approach. It helps women practise relaxation, breathing, and comfortable birth positions, so they can feel more confident and prepared for childbirth.

  • Yes. Aniball can also be used after a caesarean section. During postpartum recovery, it can help women practise pelvic floor training and support the recovery of pelvic floor function.

After a caesarean section, start using Aniball only with your doctor's approval, usually 6–8 weeks after birth.
